PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image input apparatus and an image input method capable of obtaining an image with a resolution suitable for character recognition. SOLUTION: The image input apparatus for recording photographed information as image data includes: a character size discrimination means for receiving an input of information with respect to a size of a character expressed on an object so as to discriminate the size of the character; and an imaging magnification determining means for determining imaging magnification on the basis of the size of the character discriminated by the character size discrimination means, and photographs the object at the imaging magnification determined by the imaging magnification determining means to solve the problem.
