<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device which realizes a successful color proof processing. <P>SOLUTION: In this pattern forming method, a printing device 10 synthesizes any requested image and a test image to be used for color proof processing and prints the synthesized image on a recording sheet 32, when a plurality of the requested images are continuously printed. In this case, the printing device 10 judges a printing region (a permissible region)where printing of the test image is permitted in accordance with the size of the recording sheet 32, the position and size of the printing region 322 where the requested image is printed and a region to be detected 400 which is readable using a calorimetry sensor 189.
