PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor wherein the reliability of a high pressure relief valve is improved. SOLUTION: The relief valve used in the compressor comprises: a cylindrical part 16 wherein an opening part is formed at one end and a communicating hole 16a through which a high pressure space and a low pressure space communicate with each other is formed at the other end; a piston 18 which is inserted in the cylindrical part 16 with a clearance allowing movement in the axial direction and opens/closes the communicating hole 16a by means of a steel ball 17 held therein; a coil spring 19 abutting on the piston 18 at one end and pressing the steel ball 17 held in the piston 18 in a direction to close the communicating hole 16a; a spring retaining part 20 provided opposing to the piston 18, equipped with a projected part 20b inserted along and inside the coil spring 19 and with a flange 20c retaining the other end of the coil spring 19, maintaining the posture of the coil spring 19, and adjusting the amount of compression of the coil spring 19, and a receiving plate 21 provided in the opening part of the cylindrical part 16 and receiving the spring retaining part 20.
