PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten process time for intermittent operation, and to reduce cost, by performing gripping operation, rotary operation and lifting operation of a workpiece in a motor-driven chuck by using a single rotational driving source. SOLUTION: A piston 45 is arranged to be displaced in the axial direction under the driving action of the rotational driving source 14. The workpiece 20 is gripped by a chuck part 22 including a set of arm members 70a and 70b engaged with the piston 46. After gripping the work 20, the chuck part 22 is displaced upward in the axial direction. A rotary roller 78 of a rotary member 62 connected to the chuck part 22, separates from a roller guide groove 76a, to thereby release a rotation regulating state of the rotary member 62, and the chuck part 22 for gripping the workpiece 20, rotates by a predetermined angle integrally with the rotary member 62.
