PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently generate hydrogen gas by a simple means even under mild conditions.

SOLUTION: The composite material comprises one or more kinds of aluminum metal from aluminum and aluminum alloys and a metal oxide in contact with the metal on the interface, and has ability of generating hydrogen to generate hydrogen gas by contact with water.
