PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for accurately positioning a contact image sensor (CIS) in an original transport direction without being affected by accumulation of manufacturing errors of an upper guide member main body for supporting the CIS or the like in an image reading apparatus provided with the CIS for reading one side of an original. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus 1 includes: the upper guide member main body 36 for forming a lowermost stream part of a transport path 9 and at the bottom 34 of which an opening 35 is formed; the CIS 10 supported by the upper guide member main body 36 and for reading the original P through the opening 35; and a platen roller 17 for closely contacting the original P to the CIS 10, wherein a positioning member 40 formed with a fitting groove 38a is provided at both ends of the CIS 10, and an insertion hole 43 to which the positioning member 40 is movably inserted is formed at both sides of the opening 35, and each of the positioning member 40 is inserted to the insertion hole 43 and the fitting groove 38a is fitted engaged with a roller shaft 17a of the platen roller 17.
