939,376. Ball Joints. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd., and TECALEMIT Ltd. Sept. 13, 1962 [Oct. 27, 1961], No. 38553/61. Class 65 (2). In a separable ball-andsocket joint the socket is made from resilient synthetic plastic material such as nylon and is formed as a split ring 12 one side of which is open to permit the insertion and resilient retention of the ball and the other side of which is closed by a diaphragm 17 of plastic material integral with the socket and not more than half as thick as the main body of the socket. The split 14 in the socket ring opens into a wider opening 15 for improved resilience. The diaphragm extends over the split and may extend partly or wholly over the opening. |
