FIELD: electric engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: method and device can be used for determining format of video image actually reproduced on TV screen. Signal from remote control signal is received and identified and channel which has to be received by TV set is determined. Tuned condition of channel of channel reference selector is checked to put in coincidence the sonic signals from reference channel selector and loud speaker of TV set. Reference channel selector is capable of extracting sonic signal of single random predetermined number of channels. ^ EFFECT: ability of quick and precise finding of channel actually perceived by TV set. ^ 11 cl, 10 dwg
