The method involves delivering a voltage pulse by an electric fence through an output transformer (10). Parameters which are representative of the electrical resistance of the electric fence are measured during the voltage pulse using a measuring circuit (25). The parameters also include variable amplitude of a voltage taken back to a primary winding (9) of the output transformer. An independent claim is also included for an electric fence for measuring parameters representative of its electrical resistance.
