A linear motor comprising a plurality of movers (1a-1c) each consisting of an armature having poly-phase balance windings (Ru-Rw), and a stator having permanent magnets or secondary conductors, wherein the plurality of movers (1a-1c) are arranged on the same stator and respective poly-phase balance windings (Ru-Rw) thereof (1a-1c) are connected in tandem. An inexpensive series arrangement linear motor capable of driving a large machine while canceling the cogging and capable of facilitating thermal protection and assembling work of the mover can thereby be obtained.
