<p>A method and system to implement monetary payments at exchange points in a backbone structure to build incentives for quality exchange between customers of the backbone carrier. A message originator pays a first amount when it sends data to the backbone. A message terminator is paid a lesser amount when it receives data from the backbone. The backbone owner retains a percentage of the amount paid by the originator. These payments are tied to performance criteria defined in agreements between the backbone carrier and the terminators and originators. In general, the system performs measurements of end to end network performance and the performances required by the agreements are tied to the measured data.</p> |
