PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal protector which uses a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element, through which heat is surely transmitted to a thermally actuated element of the PTC element. SOLUTION: The thermal protector comprises: a fixed piece having a fixed contact; a movable piece having a movable contact at the end and made of a thermally actuated element which makes the movable contact come into contact with the fixed contact and flip so as to take the movable contact away from the fixed contact at a predetermined temperature; a PTC element connected to the fixed piece; and a insulating housing containing the fixed piece, the fixed contact, the movable contact, the movable piece and the PTC element, having a main part and a lid joined to the main part. The PTC element is placed adjacent to the inversion center of the movable piece so that the current path from the fixed piece to the movable piece through the contact is converted into a path from the fixed piece to the movable piece through the PTC element by inversion of the movable piece.
