PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flush a toilet bowl according to a user's intent by making his/her hand closer to a specific part of a wall in the lateral direction of the toilet bowl, without separating a photoelectric detector for a manual operation from a flushing unit installed in the rear of the toilet bowl. SOLUTION: The inside of this automatic flushing apparatus for the toilet bowl is equipped with the Western-style toilet bowl, a water supply part which is installed in the rear of the toilet bowl so as to supply water to the toilet bowl, the photoelectric detector which detects the toilet-bowl user's hand so as to generate a manipulated signal, and a control part which makes the water supply part operate according to the manipulated signal; the light-projecting/light-receiving direction of the photoelectric detector is set to be an obliquely forward one; and a retroreflective plate is provided on a part where the light-projecting/light-receiving direction crosses a wall surface in the lateral direction of the toilet bowl.
