ALKALI RESISTANT CHEMICALLY MODIFIED SILICA GEL AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chemically modified silica gel which is usable without being accompanied by the degradation in separation performance for a long period of time as a column for liquid chromatography and has excellent alkali resistance by improving the alkali resistance of the chemically modified silica gel. SOLUTION: The alkali resistant chemically modified silica gel whose IR absorption spectrum has a marked absorption position at 1,700 to 1,750 cm-1is obtained by treating an original body of a silica gel by a specific carboxylic acid and/or a carboxylic acid derivative such as its acid halide or acid anhydride and chemically modifying the same. The silica gel obtained by treating the original body of the silica gel by the carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid derivative such as the one described above can be used as the silica gel which itself has the alkali resistance.
