PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve general purpose properties and safety of a fixing device used for an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatusI can be selectively mounted with a 1st fixing device 10a and a 2nd fixing device 10b and includes an abnormality detecting circuit part 200, which calculates a plurality of temperature abnormality signals S11, S12, S21, S22, S31, S32, S41, and S42, based on the temperature detection signals from a plurality of temperature sensors NC1, NC2, TH3, and TH4 of a mounted fixing device and a stop signal arithmetic circuit 300, which calculates a power supply stop signal S<SB>off</SB>based upon the plurality of temperature abnormality signals; a fixing device setting signal Ss2 and a rack setting signal Ss3; and a temperature abnormality signal Se. Further, the apparatus is equipped with an identification signal output circuit, which outputs an identification signal Ss1 identifying the fixing device and an unnecessary signal invalidating circuit part 230 which invalidates signals unnecessary to calculate the power supply stop signal based upon the identification signal.
