PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use a memory region and to reduce an amount of data transmitted from a host device. SOLUTION: This serial type recorder performs color recording by using a plurality of colors. A recording buffer 4 for diving a recording region in a scanning direction of a recording head into a plurality of regions and storing image data by a unit of division, is provided to the recorder. The image data by a unit of division which is transmitted from a host device connected thereto and includes information relating to a delimiter of each color data is stored in a reception buffer 2. Respective color data are discriminated from the image data stored in the reception buffer by a data development block 3 and writing address information of the image data by a unit of division is stored in a recording buffer 4 together with the color data.
