UTILIZATION OF GENE ENCODING PROTEIN DERIVED FROM E. COLI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a protein derived from E. coli and loaded with a 7-methylxanthosine ribose-removing enzyme activity, and a gene encoding the same and a method for utilizing them. SOLUTION: A method for producing 7-methylxanthine from 7-methylxanthosine comprises introducing a DNA molecule having either one of the following base sequence (a) or (b) into a host organism capable of producing the 7-methylxanthosine: (a) a specific base sequence, (b) a mutated base sequence obtained by performing the substitution, insertion or deletion of bases within a range without damaging the enzyme activity of the protein encoded by the specific base sequence.
