A material for forming an exothermic article for casting, which is prepared by a method comprising providing a first coated mixture by subjecting a mixture containing a refractory aggregate and an exothermic material to coating with a phenol resin and a second coated mixture by subjecting a mixture containing a refractory aggregate, an oxidizing agent and an oxidation accelerator to coating with a phenol resin, and admixing the first coated mixture and the second coated mixture; and an exothermic article for casting which is produced by heating the above material, to thereby bind the phenol resin together.
