PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display apparatus capable of quickly carrying out focus adjustment and trapezoidal distortion correction. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 25 uses an OSD circuit 28 to execute image drawing processing of an adjustment projection video image. The adjustment projection video image is a stripe image wherein a white lateral line region and a black lateral line region are alternately formed and data forming the image are not written in an image memory 21 as they are. The microcomputer 25 (OSD circuit 28) writes video data by one longitudinal line to the image memory 21. Then the microcomputer 25 instructs a video signal processing circuit 23 to carry out magnification in the lateral direction. The video signal processing circuit 23 applies the processing of magnification by a multiple of 1024 in a lateral direction to the video data by one longitudinal line and gives the video signal obtained by this processing to each of panel drivers 24R, 24G, 24B.
