PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which reduces power consumption when a video image whose total sum of video data is large is displayed. SOLUTION: In the image display device having a driving waveform generation circuit 4 which performs line scan drive of a field emission display panel 5 based on digital video data to be inputted, it is provided with an integration circuit 1 for calculating the total sum value of the digital video data to be inputted by every prescribed period, a lookup table 2 in which relation between the total sum value of the digital video data to be inputted and pulse width data of drive pulse which should be generated by the driving waveform generation circuit 4 is preset and which selects the preset pulse width data corresponding to the total sum value calculated by the integration circuit 1 and a pulse width control circuit 3 controls the pulse width of the driving pulse generated by the driving waveform generation circuit 4 based on the pulse width outputted from the lookup table 2.
