PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine used in common for a plurality of sewing works, facilitating the setting of a material to be sewn, sewing the long material to be sewn in a compact space and improving working efficiency and finishing precision. SOLUTION: This sewing machine is so constituted that two rails are installed in the side of a working table 3 into upper/lower two stages; each rail is disposed with a cramp 10 or 11 slidably moving in the front/rear direction by a driving means 16 or 17; a fabric retaining means 12 for the clamp 10 or 11 can be changed over between a retaining state allowing the fabric retaining means 12 of the clamp 10 or 11 to retain the fabric in the working position on the working table 3 by raising/lowering and left/right sliding mechanisms 13, and a stand-by state non-obstructing the movement of other clamp; and one clamp sets the fabric and moves in the sewing machine feeding direction fitted to the sewing machine feed speed to sew the fabric, while the other clamp is set in the stand-by state, moves inversely to the sewing machine feeding direction and returns to its set position.
