PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce measuring errors caused by the thermal expansion of a sample stand, in an evaluation apparatus for the characteristics of a material for evaluating the predetermined characteristics of the material by heating the sample. SOLUTION: This evaluation apparatus for the characteristics of the material is equipped with a first temperature sensor (6) for detecting the temperature of the vicinity of the sample (S); a second temperature sensor (7) for detecting the temperature of the vicinity of a heating part (5); a first temperature control means (13) for controlling the temperature of the sample stand (2), on the basis of the detection temperature of the first temperature sensor; a second temperature control means (23) for controlling the temperature of the sample stand on the basis of the detection temperature of the second temperature sensor; a set temperature deciding means (13) for deciding whether the detection temperature of the first temperature sensor has reached a preset first set temperature; and a changeover means (13) for changing over the temperature control of the heating part from the control due to the first temperature control means to the control due to the second temperature control means, when the detection temperature of the first temperature sensor is decided as having reached the first set temperature by the set temperature deciding means.
