PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine capable of minimizing the exhaustion of NOx while securing excellent operability. SOLUTION: The ECU 2 of this control device 1 switches a combustion mode between a uniform combustion mode and a stratified combustion mode, and performs fuel injection two times while both combustion modes are being switched. The ECU 2 terminates two times of fuel injection according to the results of the comparison of a fuel injection amount TCYLLMT for transfer calculated according to a requested torque PMCMD against a fuel injection amount TCYLISTT for intake stroke calculated according to an intake air amount during the two times of fuel injection in switching the combustion mode from the stratified combustion mode to the uniform combustion mode (step 124).
