The detector has a signal detector (SD) with an input to receive an output of an adjustable gain amplifier (AGC) that receives an input signal. A threshold comparator compares the detector`s (SD) output with a reference level to provide a loss-of-signal indication signal. A gain control input in the amplifier sets the amplifier`s gain to lower and higher values if the indication signal is active and not active, respectively.
