PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of enhancing the accuracy for focus discrimination when a photo picture is a portrait. SOLUTION: A CPU 11 executes a computer program Pr to allow a portrait discrimination section 30 to discriminate whether or not a photo picture denoted by one image data Dp read from a hard disk drive 14 is a portrait image. When the discrimination indicates that the photo picture is the portrait image, a first processing section 32 applies focus discrimination processing for the portrait to the photo picture. On the other hand, when the portrait discrimination section 30 discriminates that the photo picture is a picture other than the portrait, a second processing section 34 applies focus discrimination processing for non-portrait to the photo picture. The first processing section 32 discriminates how much the focus of the photo picture is matched on the basis of "a skin color possessed by the photo picture and the intensities of luminances edges with respect to edge parts of the photo picture".
