PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a misfire detecting device for detecting misfire with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The misfire detecting device comprises a friction torque estimating means 7A for estimating illustrated torque Ti and inertia torque J×(dω/dt) of an internal combustion engine 1 when the internal combustion engine 1 is in a load stable condition, finding a difference between the estimated illustrated torque Ti and inertia torque J×(dω/dt) and estimating friction torque Tf of the internal combustion engine 1 using the found difference, and a misfire determining means 7B for determining misfire using the friction torque Tf found by the friction torque estimating means 7A.
