PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an absorber by which an absorber that has required strengths and has an absorbent element material reliably retaining an intrinsic absorption capacity is manufactured smoothly with a high productivity, and a suitable absorber for disposable diapers obtained by the method. SOLUTION: A pair of rollers 2, 3 are placed to oppose each other at a prescribed distance while a coining roller 2 with a plurality of finishing protrusions 2a on the circumferential surface in a prescribed arrangement is provided at least on one side. An absorber strip 1 formed by covering the absorbent element material 7, constituted by mixing at least pulp 8 and a highly absorbent polymer 9 with a liquid permeable sheet, is fed between the pair of rollers 2, 3 and is transferred. Consequently, a plurality of linear patterns 1a formed like linear grooves in a plane view by pressing down with each of finishing protrusions 2a are placed to be spaced individually and to be scattered zigzag on at least one side of the absorber body 1.
