<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize current drive type gradation control accompanying γ correction without increasing a circuit scale. <P>SOLUTION: A light emittable period of a light emitting element, for example, in one scanning period is time-divided into two periods of a first half and a second half and a light emission drive operation of the light emitting element is executed. For example, light emission drive current to be provided to the light emitting element is generated by a current mirror circuit 16 by utilizing luminance conversion data read from a γ correction data table 12 in the period of the first half. In addition, the light emission drive current to be provided to the light emitting element is generated similarly by the current mirror circuit 16 by utilizing luminance conversion data read from a data table 11 for display in the period of the second half.
