<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method of optimizing an exhaust gas value of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine (1) includes an NOx occlusion catalyst (11) arranged in an exhaust system (10), and an NOx sensor (14) located behind the NOx occlusion catalyst.
