Wheeled patient transfer device

A device for moving a patient from one location to another having a wheeled chassis 8 and a seat 3 for the patient to sit on, comprises assistance means for loading and unloading the patient. Preferably the assistance means is the form of at least one side transfer flap 4 attached to one or both sides of the seat and/or a turntable 6 mounted to the chassis to enable the patient to be rotated before being seated. The transfer flap can be moved between a position in which is occupies a near vertical plane to a transfer position in which it occupies a substantially horizontal plane [Figure 1]. The turntable may be provided with a knee pad 5, a handle 1, and footrests 7. Brakes may be provided for the wheels 9 and the turntable 6. A strap or harness may also be provided to support the patient when on the turntable.
