PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a braking device capable of adjusting spring pressing force by remote control. SOLUTION: The braking device for an elevator hoisting machine energizes an electromagnet 6 to suck a moving core 8 of the electromagnet 6 and make that in a non-braking state, and carries out braking by pressing the moving core 8 with a braking spring 23 when the electromagnet 6 is not energized. The braking device for the elevator hoisting machine comprises a moving spring seat 24 for adjusting spring pressing force to the moving core 8 of the braking spring 23, an actuator backwardly/forwardly moving the moving spring seat 24, and a control device 29 controlling the actuator 28.
