A piezoelectric ceramic of perovskite type composite oxide having an ABO3 type composition wherein the site A contains Pb while the site B contains Zr and Ti, characterized in that providing that the total amount of B-site constituting element species of the perovskite type composite oxide contained in the ceramic is 1 mol, the average valence of the B-site constituting element species is in the range of 4.002 to 4.009. This piezoelectric ceramic can be sintered at low temperature, being high in Curie temperature and effective piezoelectric strain constant and excels in high-temperature durability reliability.
