PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strip transport roll, a method for transporting the strip and a continuous type heat treatment furnace which dispense with a motor for rotating the roll and realize stable transport of a extremely thin strip without possibility of causing scratching caused by slip and without causing bulging at the central part of the strip and the warping. SOLUTION: The strip transport roll is provided with an outer barrel body 2 in contact with the strip 1, an inner barrel body 3 at the inner surface side of the outer barrel body 2, and, on the surface of the inner barrel body 3, gas jetting holes 5 for floating up the outer barrel body 2 by jetting the gas toward the inner surface of the outer barrel body 2 so that the outer barrel body 2 is not in contact with the inner barrel body 3.
