PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a slip occurs between an optical disk and a turntable. SOLUTION: An optical disk playing back apparatus is provided with the optical disk recorded by a CLV system, the turntable for mounting the optical disk, a clamper for press-fitting the optical disk to the turntable, a spindle motor for rotating the turntable, an optical pickup for reading information signals from the optical disk, and a traverse mechanism for moving the optical pickup in the radial direction of the optical disk. The optical pickup is moved to a target position by the traverse mechanism, and in the case that a distance to move the optical pickup is longer than a prescribed value in the acceleration / deceleration of the spindle motor, a control means is used for setting the distance to move the optical pickup to be equal to or less than the prescribed value.
