PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of improving the reliability of a compressor by inhibiting the frequent on/off operation of the compressor in low air-conditioning load, improving an effective operation rate, and keeping the comfort in high air-conditioning load. SOLUTION: This air conditioner comprises a refrigerating cycle having the compressor 1, an outdoor heat exchanger 3, a decompression device 4 and an indoor heat exchanger 5, and a controller 16 for controlling on/off of the compressor 1.
