The facility to write into and read out of transponders, which are difficult to access, e.g. in a sewer, features a handle (4) with a read/write head (1), which is adjustable in length and has an integrated antenna. The handle (4) is equipped with a catch (4') to lock the length in different stages. The handle (4) also features a casing (6) for the power supply and the electronics for the read/write head (1). The read/write head (1) is equipped with an LED status display (2) and a transponder data display (3). Furthermore, the handle (4) is fitted with a mount (5) for a mobile computer (P DA).
