PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system whereby an imaging means automatically zooms in by a point entry to an imaged image displayed screen of a display means, succeedingly the execution of detecting a person's face or a person's head is automatically shifted on the basis of the imaged image and the continuity of a monitoring work by an operator can be facilitated. SOLUTION: The monitoring system comprises: a panning mechanism 50; a tilt mechanism 60; and a controller 70 for controlling a zoom mechanism 40, the panning mechanism 50, and the tilt mechanism 60. When the operator uses a pen 35 to designate an area of the displayed image, the controller 70 applies zoom-in control to the zoom mechanism 40 so as to magnify a prescribed image area in the designated area to magnify the imaged image of the prescribed area.
