PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the outer peripheral wall under a clean state by washing off foreign matters and fouling adhering to the outer peripheral wall of a rotating drum with a strong water stream generated by rotating the rotating drum at a high speed in a washing machine which performs washing, rinsing and spin-drying in the rotating drum having the rotating shaft in an approximately horizontal direction or an approximately tilted direction. SOLUTION: For this washing machine, the rotating drum having the rotation axis in the approximately horizontal direction or the approximately tilted direction is internally contained in a water receiving tub which is elastically supported by a washing machine main body. The washing machine is constituted in such a manner that electricity is fed to a motor 5 which drives the rotating drum by an inverter 23 having switching elements 23a to 23f, and the driving of the motor 5 is controlled by controlling the switching elements 23a to 23f of the inverter 23 by a controlling means 16. The controlling means 16 performs a rotating drum washing process for which the rotational number of the rotating drum is controlled in such a manner that the rotational number may become a first rotational number from a rotational number by which laundry sticks to the rotating drum to a rotational number being at a dehydration regular rotational number or lower, under a state that water is accumulated in the water receiving tub.
