<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake quantity control function by continuously changing practical length of an intake passage with simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The variable intake device provided in an intake passage 2 of an internal combustion engine is provided with a plurality of arc pipes 3A-3D respectively closed in one end thereof and comprising an opening 3a in the other end thereof, a first slit extended in the longitudinal direction in the inner peripheral surface of each of the arc pipes 3A-3D, a drum 4 brought in slide-contact with the inner peripheral surface of each of the arc pipes 3A-3D and provided freely to turn in the circumferential direction X of the inner peripheral surface and to move in the thrust direction Y of the inner peripheral surface, a second slit extended along the thrust direction Y in the outer peripheral surface of the drum 4 and crossing the first slit, and a lead-in opening 4b provided in the outer peripheral surface of the drum 4 on a side opposite to the second slit. The lead-in opening 4b is provided to be communicated with one end opening 2a of the intake passage 2.
