PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the ability of a server is limited by the ability to fetch data from a storage during the distribution of streaming to clients, resulting in decrease in data transfer rate and increase in processing time. SOLUTION: A device adapter for connecting a server to storage includes a cache controller, a cache interface for accessing a cache device, and a storage interface for accessing the storage. The cache controller enables the data taken out of the storage to be stored in the cache without being concerned with by a host computer. The cache controller has a cache directory for managing the allocation of storage areas on the cache and a monitor for maintaining information on the loads and performances of the storage and the cache. Either the storage or the cache is used depending on the current load and performance of the storage as well as on the presence of request data in the cache. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
