Non-contacting web deflectors (10, 20, 30) providing guidance, carry the web from the curtain coating unit (112) to a region of the machine following the drying equipment (60, 70), without touching the web. The web is carried and guided contactlessly from the unrolling unit or its tensioning arrangement (106), to the rolling-up unit (104) or its associated tensioning unit (108). Variants and enhancements of these configurations are described, based on the foregoing principles. Web stabilizers (110) are included, optionally non-contacting.
