A method for fitting tools onto a rotating roller, e.g. for removing road surfaces, has a box shaped steel holder (3) welded to the roller (1) and with a radial bore to a shaped socket in the top of the box. The tool holder (5), with fitted tool (6) locates into the socket with a corresponding mounting and is secured by a threaded fastener (11) set through the tool holder and the box. The bottom of the threaded fastener is secured into a threaded plate (16). Side apertures (8) in the box provide access to the fitting and allows close spacing of the tools with similar units on the same roller.
