[Also in Division B5] An automatic device for cutting corrugated or profiled sheets travelling continuously comprises a first movable carriage 1 having means for controlling the acceleration of the carriage as described in the main Specification 1,004,954, a cutting tool in the form of a circular saw, abrasive or other cutting disc 7 carried by a second carriage 6 movable crosswise of the sheet 18 on a horizontal girder 4 fixed to two vertical rods 3, 3a one on each side of the path of travel of the sheet and mounted on the first movable carriage, the two rods being lowered for the cutting operation and lifted afterwards. The first movable carriage is moved by the sheet engaging a stop connected to the carriage by two pairs of links and the means for controlling the acceleration consists of the two pairs of links, the paths of movement of the articulated joint of the two links of each pair being controlled by a respective roller co-operating with a respective cam, the profiles of which are such that movement of the sheet imparts uniform acceleration to the carriage until the carriage is moving at the same speed as the sheet, the links of each pair then being in alignment. The carriage 1 is guided along rods 2, 2a and slidably supports the vertical rods 3, 3a which are slidably guided in an upper cross member 15 and fixed to a girder 4 and cross-bars 5. The girder carries the slidable second carriage 6 for the saw or disc 7, and the cross-bar 5 is connected by pairs of toggle levers 10, 10a, 11, 11a to the carriage, the joints of the levers being connected to the rod 9 of a jack 8. Operation of the jack during travel of the carriage 1 lowers the saw for a cutting operation and then raises it, the sheet, during cutting, being held by clamps 12, 12a operated by jacks 13, 13a. |
