PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reading apparatus capable of shortening a total time required for reading a plurality of originals. SOLUTION: A separating roller 18, a resist roller 19 and the like which are used for correcting the inclined transfer of an original and an image pickup element, and a contact type image sensor 29 and the like which are used for reading the image on the original are disposed along a transfer path 50 of the original. The rotation of the resist roller 19 is temporarily stopped when the head end of the original is transferred to a position abutting to the resist roller 19 by rotations of a pickup roller 17 and the separating roller 18, so that an operation of correcting the inclined transfer of a subsequent original may be performed during the reading operation of an advance original.
