A vibration-damping cutting tool that is inexpensive, that has high chatter-vibration suppressing effect, and that has a holder capable of being matched, with a simple structure, to a wide variety of working diameters and cutting conditions. A pocket (4) is provided in a shank section (2) of a holder (1), and a vibration-damping piece (5) is inserted in the pocket (4) so as to be movable relative to the holder (1) and so as not to be able to jump out of place. In cutting, the damping piece (5) receives kinetic energy from the holder and alternately collides with inner walls (4a, 4b) at opposite positions of the pocket (4). The collisions occur as surface collisions, line collisions at multiple places, or point collisions at multiple places, damping vibration of the holder.
