Composition (A) for controlling (a) pests, especially larvae of the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), and (b) potato blight (Phytophthora infestans) comprises a mixture of 'algal lime' (A1) and powdered stone (A2). ACTIVITY : Plant Antifungal; Insecticide. No details of tests for these activities are given. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Algal lime has a repellent effect on beetles (it 'mineralizes' the leaves, making them less attractive to cutting and sucking insects) and if (A) is consumed, it causes rapid detachment of larvae from the plants (as a result of injury to internal organs) and also inhibits metamorphosis of larvae to adults.
