A divided flywheel is located between the crank shaft and the input shaft to the gearbox. This includes two or more weights which are able to rotate relative to each other, acting against the effects of an energy storage unit. At least one of the weights is connected to an input shaft of the gearbox, with an interposed friction clutch.
