<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture, at low cost, a color filter for a semitransmissive liquid crystal display, a color filter having desired color properties (color purity, brightness, and tonality) respectively in a reflective display and a transmissive display, to prevent defects of an oriented film by eliminating a rubbing process in the manufacture of a liquid crystal display, and to provide a color filter having a superior visual field characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: The color filter for a liquid crystal display has a transparent electrode formed on pixels, and a region having a plurality of coloring layers laminated and a region having less coloring layers are formed respectively in one pixel. In this color filter, resin layers other than the coloring layers are formed in the region where the less coloring layers are formed.
