<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light control element which is free of deformation accompanying an increase in area and has small density unevenness, superior light control characteristics, and high safety, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed are the light control element, having a macromolecular gel composition layer, containing a holding material, liquid held by the holding material, and stimulation reactive macromolecular gel held by the holding material and absorbing and desorbing the liquid by external stimulation to vary in volume, and its manufacturing method, the light control element being characterized in that the stimulation reactive macromolecular gel is arrayed in one layer in the holding material.
