PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft used for driving a roll-like rotor, facilitating manufacture, rich in rigidity and durability and having excellent dimensional accuracy without deformation such as warp and distortion, and a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: This shaft is formed of fiber reinforced resin made by mixing fibers in parallel to the axis in resin, and a plurality of cutout recessed parts are formed along the mixing direction of the fibers on the surface layer part of the fiber reinforced resin to have an area in a longitudinal section 10 to 90% of the area in the virtual longitudinal section of the fiber reinforced resin before it is formed into the shaft. According to this manufacturing method of the shaft, a metal mold is provided with a gate at an angle of 0 to 90 degrees to the flowing direction of the molten resin composition containing fiber and resin, and the molten resin composition is injected from the gate into a cavity to perform injection molding.
